P ost Secondary
When I first started thinking about post secondary, I knew that I really loved science, specifically Biology. From there, I really loved learning about the human body and how diseases affected it, which made me really interested in pathology. I looked into it and decided that I wanted to be a pathologist.
After that, I looked at what I would have to do and the courses I needed to take to become a pathologist. The courses in High School that I need to take are Grade 12 English, Grade 12 Biology, Grade 12 Chemistry, Grade 12 Functions, Grade 12 Calculus and a non-science/non-math Grade 12 course. After finding out what I needed in High School, I found out what I would need to do in University. I need to take a undergraduate course for at least 3 years and then apply to medical school and then once I'm finished medical school, I can do a residency working as a pathologist.
From there I started looking at school that offered undergraduate courses that I liked but also had a medical program. These schools included McMaster, Queens, Toronto, and Western. The first thing that I looked at was how far these schools were from home and I decided that McMaster, Queens and Toronto were the closest.
McMaster:
After finding which schools offered my program, I looked into McMaster first. McMaster is in Hamilton, which is about half an hour away from my mom, which is good. I looked into the health science program and it had a range of different studies including pathology. I also looked at the medical program and it looked promising too. The school had many different dorm options but there was also the option to live with my mom. They also had many different meal plans.
So far, I have only looked at some of the programs at Queens and Toronto and they are very similar to McMaster, I haven't gone into detail about the dorms or the meal plans that the other schools offer so I don't know what they are like yet. I will eventually see what each school is like and I would be lucky to get into any of them.
